Stair-A-Way
[September 2021]
The stairway, following a ‘stair away’, is no longer a stairway (you’ll see).
The feature stone wall will be in the new ‘ensuite’ (what’s that in English? I’m with the Americans – ‘bedroom with bath‘). The half landing window will give an interesting degree of “nether region exposure” when using the facilities – frosted glass won’t quite ‘cut it’.
With one large blunt object, and something a touch sharper, Tom makes short work of removing the old stairs.
Interesting piece of custom iron work to support the landing – only just hanging on at one end, literally millimetres away from ‘failure’.
Ready for the new floor joists
And a bit of partitioning and flooring later the room is taking shape.
The remaining floor, downstairs, can now come out. At this stage I should ask Tom for a comment regarding the floor’s multi-layered construction, it may well elicit a colourful response.
Bricks, all types, cobbles, are there different types?, plastics, many types, concrete, varying strengths, and mountains of ‘mud’.
(The radiator still works!)
